24' Yankee Dolphin - Wanderlust

We sold this boat in 1999 when we bought Pyxis. We wanted a bigger boat for longer range cruising, but were sorry to see Wanderlust go. We weren't at all surprised that the first person who came to look at her bought her.

Wanderlust is a beautiful boat.  The Dolphin was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and has that classic look. It is solidly built of non-cored fiberglass, but has enough teak to make it look good.  It has a full-keel, shoal-draft design with a pivioting centerboard . It sails well in any wind.

This example was built in 1970 by Yankee Yachts. Its prior owners included a retired navy captain, who doted on the boat and rigged it with oversize shrouds and lifelines, as well as decorative knotwork.  Another retired owner added a furling main and jib and a brand new electric-start outboard.   It has a dodger and an anchor windlass -- luxuries on a boat of this size.

It looks bigger than its length and feels bigger inside. This is a great cruising boat that will turn heads in any harbor. Check out some pictures of the boat and an original advertisement.

Its equipment includes:

  • Furling jib and man
  • New VHF
  • Autopilot
  • Dodger
  • Anchor windlass
  • Three anchors and rodes
  • Legal head and holding tank
  • Lifelines and pulpit
  • Sabot-type dingy

People who own Dolphins tend to be passionate about them.  See the comments on the Dolphin Owners Home Page.  Also, for the adventurous, read about the Dolphin that won its class in the Single-Handed Transpac Race.
